Mary Bond was the wife of James Bond - the ornithologist who was the namesake for Ian Fleming's character. The Bonds lived in Pretty Marsh on the estate which is now (2012) owned by Joan Fitzgerald.

[Herbert Weir Smyth] identify the author of the poem.
