Folding knife with bone handle. Eagle in center of blade. Blade marked, “of the Best Quality. Patent Concave. Henry Clay Knife”. Donor info - knife belonged to Henry Somes, a seaman. The tip of the knife was broken off by the Captain of the ship to prevent murders, (perhaps this particular knife happened to be shaped that way). The knife was carried by Somes in the Navy during the Civil War. Henry Somes’ widow married Lewis Somes. She gave the knife to Glendon Lurvey. [show more]

Cased daguerreotype of Capt. Eben L. Higgins, sea captain of Mount Desert (1807-1900). Calling card of Mrs. Lester E. Pray is enclosed in the case. Note on back of card: "Picture of Capt. Eben L. Higgins, one of the well known Sea Captains of the island in former years." Captain Higgins was the husband of Hannah D. He died on December 28, 1900, at age 92 years, 9 months, and is buried in the Hamilton Station Cemetery in Bar Harbor. [show more]

White fabric belt and yellow metal Grand Army of the Republic buckle and clasp, with five-pointed star with seal and letter GAR on the buckle. Clasp at end of belt. Fabric has yellowed, but is in good condition. This buckle belonged to John Willman Smith of Prett Marsh. He served in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Civil War.
