Description: Reproduction of a map from Colby's Atlas of Hancock County (1881). Contains text descriptions of Mount Desert Island, Cranberry Isles and Mount Desert Rock with specific references to their locations in relation to Mount Desert Island, Maine. It shows, with lesser emphasis, the place names: Bar Harbor, SW Harbor, NE Harbor. Contains enlarged window showing Mount Desert Village (Somesville). Description of MDI mentions the incorporation in 1838 of "Seaville," a group of islands that included Bartlett's, Robinson's and Hardwood Islands in 1838. This incorporation was repealed in 1859.
