Description: An 8x10 black and white photograph of a dark wooden house with a picket fence in front of it. The house sits on the water and is on the side of the road. To the right of the house is a pier and a telephone pole.
Description: An 8x10 (a) black and white photograph of Isleford Historical Museum, Acadia National Park and a 4 1/2x6 print (b) of the same photograph. A woman stands in the doorway of the museum.
Description: This is a collection of photographs which are not arranged in any particular order and should be inventoried in the future by adding descriptions under their catalog numbers in the database; scanning would be helpful too. For now, our goal is to access the folder and make note of key names so researchers will be able to find the information they are seeking. There is basically little identifying information on these photographs. (Anne Welles) There are 44 photographs which are numbered 001-118-7.001-001-118-7.044. [show more]
Description: A black and white 8x10 close-up photograph of a house with a corner porch. The photograph is in very poor condition. There are streak marks on the right side of the photo and a black border.
Description: A black and white 8x10 photo of a house and a barn. There is a skeletal tree in front of the house. A dirt road passes in front of the buildings.
Description: A black and white 8x10 of the estate house named Sonogee. There are two balconies (one in the center and one to the right of the photograph). There is a man on the first floor outside deck who appears to be looking downward. From the lawn there is a little slope that goes up to the house.
Description: A Black and White 6 1/2 x 10 photograph of a 2 story house. Two hedges on either side of the front door. There are low hanging electrical wires across the top of the photograph.
Description: An 8x10 black and white photo of unidentified houses on the far end of the photograph some partially obscured by trees. The house to the right seen clearly has a stone chimney on the exterior of the house.
Description: This 10 by 7 and 1/2 inch black and white photograph is mounted on frayed gray cardboard-like paper. This is a photo of the Diston House on Manchester Point, Northeast Harbor. The label on the backside indicates that Brown Mountain is in the background.
Description: This black and white photograph is approximately 12 by 9 and 3/4 inches. It is mounted on gray cardboard-like paper which has a corner missing on the upper righthand side. The gift inventory list identifies it as " Flock of seagulls in flight - hand tinted". There is a crayon mark on the lower right hand side of the print.
Description: This 6 by 10 inch black and white photograph is a duplicate of #001-71.4. That picture is labeled Northeast Harbor rather than Southwest Harbor like this photo is. I believe Northeast Harbor is more accurate. There are 10 or 11 gaff-rigged sailboats sailing. In the background are the mountains of Mt. Desert Island. This photograph is fuzzy and has two spots on the upper lefthand side.
Description: This black and white photograph is approximately 7 and 1/4 inches by 4 and 1/2 inches. It is mounted on gray cardboard-like paper. The label on the backside is "Mt. Desert Island". The gift inventory list indicates that this photograph is a copy of a Ballard print of Thunderhole on Acadia's Park Loop Road.
Description: This 10 and 1/4 by 7 and 3/4 inch black and white photograph is mounted on gray cardboard-like paper. Nine becalmed sailing vessels are in the foreground. A rowboat and part of a sailing hull are on the right edge of the foreground. Land is visible behind the sailboats, as is one more sailing vessel. The shadows of the sails are reflections in the water.
Description: This 6 and 1/4 by 9 and 3/4 inch, black and white photograph is mounted on light gray cardboard-like paper. The foreground of the picture is dark so the sailboat is a black shadow and it is impossible to make out the details of the boat's hull. There are black clouds in the sky and a piece of land in the background. On the backside, the words, "Northeast Harbor" are written, as well as, "19431/Guide".
Description: This 10 and 1/4 by 6 and 3/4 inch black and white photograph is mounted on gray cardboard-like paper. The rock formations in the foreground are black. There are points of land on the horizon where the sun can be seen rising. The label on the backside is "Mt. Desert ?".
Description: This black and white photograph measures appoximately 6 by 10 inches. There are about 10 gaff-rigged sailboats in the background. Mountains are in the distant background behind the sailboats. The photograph is faded and has a dark gray spot, just left of the top center. It is mounted on faded white cardboard-like paper. On the back, the words "Northeast Harbor" appear.
Description: This is an 8 by 10 inch black and white photograph mounted on gray cardboard. It is difficult to determine where this photograph was taken. It seems as if it was taken on a wooded knoll looking out to the ocean. There are points of land jutting out in the background and it looks as if there is a sandy inlet at the base of the knoll. The original inventory list indicates that "Merry Christmas in Gold Lettering" is written on the gray matte. However, those words do not appear now. [show more]
Description: This is a 6 by 10 inch black and white photograph mounted on a gray cardboard. It appears to be a duplicate of object #001-71.1. The backside is labeled as in #001-71.1. That is "race, Somes Sonnel, Northeast Harbor". Again, the mountains of Mount Desert Island are in the background but it is questionable as to whether the race is on Somes Sound. (ALW) The photo is faded and cloudy but does not have the green spots on the left as #001-71.1 does. [show more]
Description: This is an 8 by 12 inch, black and white photograph mounted on white board. On the backside, it is labeled in ink as "race, Somes Sonnel, Northeast Harbor". The photograph definitely has the mountains of Mount Desert Island in the background, but I question whether it is Somes Sound which I think is what the person who wrote the label intended to write. (ALW) There are 10 gaff-rigged sailboats racing. The race committee boat can be seen in the background, off to the right side of the photo. This is in poor condition because it appears faded and has green spots on the left side of the photo. [show more]
