I believe Northeast Harbor is more accurate. There are 10 or 11 gaff-rigged sailboats sailing. In the background are the mountains of Mt. Desert Island. This photograph is fuzzy and has two spots on the upper lefthand side.

It seems as if it was taken on a wooded knoll looking out to the ocean. There are points of land jutting out in the background and it looks as if there is a sandy inlet at the base of the knoll. This is an 8 by 12 inch, black and white photograph mounted on white board. On the backside, it is labeled in ink as "race, Somes Sonnel, Northeast Harbor". The photograph definitely has the mountains of Mount Desert Island in the background, but I question whether it is Somes Sound which I think is what the person who wrote the label intended to write. (ALW) There are 10 gaff-rigged sailboats racing. The race committee boat can be seen in the background, off to the right side of the photo. This is in poor condition because it appears faded and has green spots on the left side of the photo. [show more]
