5-piece brown and white wedding dress which belonged to Gertrude Crosby, mother of Norma and Polly Fernald of Somesville. According to Jean Fernald, "Gertrude Jewett and Cecil Crosby were married March 28, 1903 at the Town Hall in Amherst, Maine. The newspaper report of the wedding noted that 150 guests attended. They were married by Brother John Grover, Justice of the Peace. Gram Crosby, as she was lovingly called by all her grandchildren, told us that her gown was made by her mother with some of the hand work being done by herself. A gown was often colored so that it could be worn as best dress after the wedding. The fabric was purchased from a traveling man who sold fabric as well as a variety of other things.The gown consists of: skirt, top (blouse), cummerbund, neck insert with beads and lace, and long ruffled petticoat. with pink trim.
