Black pig skin. Soles attached with wooden pegs, heel with nails. Sewn design at top of boot. Some scratches and cracks in leather. Two boot straps inside. Donor info - from Eugene Merchant house (donor’s father) former Dr. Kendall Kittredge house outside historic district. Believed to belong to Dr. Kittredge (1773-1857).

Cased daguerreotype of Capt. Eben L. Higgins, sea captain of Mount Desert (1807-1900). Calling card of Mrs. Lester E. Pray is enclosed in the case. Note on back of card: "Picture of Capt. Eben L. Higgins, one of the well known Sea Captains of the island in former years." Captain Higgins was the husband of Hannah D. He died on December 28, 1900, at age 92 years, 9 months, and is buried in the Hamilton Station Cemetery in Bar Harbor. [show more]
