Description:
The album is a leather bound brown book with black pages bound and affixed into the cover. The photo album is dated February 20, 1902. This inscription is written in longhand on the first page: May B. Dana, 24 Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven, Connecticut. The first page of photographs has two photographs labeled "24 Hillhouse Ave. at the Bicentennial" in the "Autumn of 1901".The next centerfold has 4 pictures: 24 Hillhouse Ave. ; a picture of the corner of Hillhouse Ave. and Grove Street with Bicentennial lanterns; College Street with Bicentennial Lanterns; Fayerweather and White dormitories. The next centerfold has these four photographs: Professor Rood and Papa in their gowns at the Bicentennial; Ethel Smyth; Woodbridge Hall; and Garden at 65 Inn (?) Street. The next centerfold has four family photographs from 1902: three are of "Billy" and the fourth is of "Mother". Three photographs of "Billy in the Spring of 1902 fill the next centerfold. One of the three includes "Papa" and the fourth photograph is of Billy's hook and ladder. In the next centerfold of four pictures there are two in Connecticut at Hillhouse Avenue and two at Great Head on MDI. The Great Head pictures show Jim Gardiner and group on the beach and people exploring a cave at Great Head. All these photographs are from 1902. Summer of 1902 is showcased in the next four photographs. First is of Merrill Griswold, Great Head Picnic. The next is of Polly Webster, Great Head Picnic. The third photograph is of Frank Damrosch, Dick and Sydney Sargent on top of Pemetic Mountain. The last photograph in this centerfold is of two women, one man and a child on board the "Sappho". The Summer of 1902 pictures continue in the next centerfold with these four prints: Sydney Sargent and Polly on board "The Como" (?); children on board the "Como"; Philip Sutter (?) at Otter Cliffs Picnic; and a shore scene. Three more photographs of Summer 1902 appear in the next centerfold. First is Will Marcus playing tennis. Next are people on board the "San Joy" (?); and Will Marcus. One of the photographs has been removed. The blank space is labeled "Chapin Marcus and ???". Continuing on in the scrapbook, there are four more summer 1902 photographs of Maine scenes: Jordan Pond; Long Pond; Surf on Duck Island; and Katharine D?. Turning the page shows four more 1902 summer scenes. There is another of surf on Duck Island; followed by, Dwight, Musse House and Papa, Mother and Franklin. The last two photographs of summer 1902 are of Katharine and Mrs. Hastings at Eagle Lake Picnic and Chapin Marcus on a rowboat. Then the photographs shift to Connecticut in the Autumn of 1902. The first caption is hard to read and it depicts a road with large buildings in the background. The next photo is of three women sitting on a stoop. None are identified. The next centerfold had four Farmington photographs labeled: Elizabeth Brown; Helen Smith; Hartford Country Club; Eleanor Whitney and Eunice Parish. The Farmington photographs continue with a centerfold meant to hold four pictures but only three remain from the Winter of 1903. The photo labeled Eleanor Whitney is missing. The three present ones are: View from the Red Bridge; Elizabeth Brown, Florence Brown, and Ellen Walier; Margaretta Belin (?) and Elizabeth Richmond. The Farmington Winter 1903 pictures continue with photos of young women: Charlotte Hopkins; Ruth Brainard; E. Luyeth (?), M. Barstow, C. Hopkins, R. Brainard & E.
