Description: Window, which leans inwards, opens for candle. Gimbaled candle holder missing. Two brass rings on each side for carrying. Handle on top over tin chimney. Dovetail joints. More likely lantern than binnacle cover (AB 7/12/12).
Description: Rectangular birchbark picture frame, with glass window 3 1/2” by 4”, framing photo of Lucie Pray, age 12 to 16 (photo #001.59.297. )Rough texture, edges of frame bound with some sort of slim wood binding. Thin metal rods attached to back as prop. Glass is coated with dirt and grime.

Fernald were sisters. Their mother, Judith Somes Heath (m. Capt. Hirshel Heath), had a house and hat shop between Nuttings and Peppers. Judith and Etta Somes Salisbury were sisters. Kate Heath Pray said that these vases were "very old" when she gave them to the Hysoms, parents of donor (Gail Hysom Reiber). [show more]

Description: Boot pull shaped like long water droplet. Sits on one leg has hole shape of heel of boot in center. Wearer of boot puts boot in hole and steps on end to tug boot off.
Description: Glass front with a rounded black top. Tin base has holes as if once mounted. Latch at base opens so that candle can be placed inside. Candle wax flows out of base.
Description: Snuffer resembles pair of scissors. Small box at end of tool. Lid closed on top of box holding the wick inside. Iron is rusty. Black tray is very rusty. Wide curves on each end. Narrow in the middle.

Description: Light brown wood with carved back. Upholstered seat of gray brocade. Upholstery very worn. Spring pushed through underside of cushion. Chair sturdy.
Description: Carved dark wood. Seat and back resemble scallop shells. Arms resemble sea serpents. Four legs resemble rough tree branches. Note on ribbon across seat indicated that chair may have been used in Daniel Somes's house. Ellsworth furniture restorer David Williams saw this chair; his research indicated that it may be a ninetheenth Venetian grotto chair, which was intended for hallways and aimed to be sold to visitors on their European tours. Description: Child sized chair. Maybe a doll chair. Bent wood back with strip of wood from chair seat to bent wood. Painted black with gold trim and angels drinking wine. Soldier boy on seat. Donor info - belonged to Lucie Pray, the daughter of Kate and Lester Pray of Somesville.
Description: Lid lifts to reveal shallow space. Two drawers underneath. Sits on four legs. Donor info - was given to donor as a wedding present 61 years ago. Donor used it for odds and ends and thread.
Description: Mirror is in three parts, hinged together. Small knob at top of each panel; mirrors are beveled. Dimensions: Each part is 5" X 7." Far right panel is very scratched. Donor purchased home in Bar Harbor at 17 Wayman Lane; house built c. 1890-1912. Mirror found in one of the pantry cabinets. House formerly belonged to a school teacher, Mrs. Moon. Donor had seen same kind of mirror at the Underground Railway Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio. May or may not have a connection to Mt. Desert Island. [show more]
Description: Wooden cradle on rockers which are not fixed to the cradle. Once painted blue. Constructed with both dove tailed joints and nails. Head board has a narrow side piece creating a semi “hood”.
