Title:
Smith Cottage. Mount Desert, Maine
Description:
An 8 x 10 black and white photo printed from negative 997-812-982 of the Abraham Somes III & later, the Thaddeus S. Somes home on Main Street, Somesville. Mill Pond is in the foreground. To the right is A.J. Whiting's store, sold to Fernald in 1887. This photo predates 1894-5, the year that the library was built.
Pictured to the left is a horse and carriage stopped on the bridge.
Telegraph poles in view.
Image originally labeled SMITH COTTAGE. Mount Desert, Maine, but identification changed [by Virginia Somes Sanderson] to read "Abraham Somes III-Thaddeus S. Somes Home, Old Mill Pond." It is likely that the house in center of image, but obstructed by trees, was the Smith Cottage torn down ca. 1920-1922 [according to V. S. Sanderson].
