Title:
Surfman in Foreground
Description:
Paul Stubing indicated that the vessel "Surfman" is in the foreground. The boat on the far right was a 1930's Nova Scotian boat which he claimed was less graceful and less expensive.
There are several other fishing vessels in this picture. One of the other vessels is named "Medric". The scene appears to be winter as there is snow on the shore and on the boats.
According to James Warren's "Maine Sardine Industry History 1875-2000", "Surfman" was built at Camden, Maine, in 1918 and was 56.2 feet in length and drew 6.7 feet. She had a gross ton of 24 and a net ton of 6. "Surfman" was affiliated with Addison Packing Co. of Southwest Harbor.
"Medric" was built at East Boothbay, Maine, in 1919. She was 61.2 feet, drew 7.6 feet with a gross ton of 31 and a net ton of 11.
Ralph Stanley said the "Jaquelin" is a dragger built by Bob Rich and owned by Bill Howell.
