Title:
Eva Grace
Description:
Paul Stubing said this is a photograph of the "Eva Grace". She was a sardine carrier without hydraulic pumping equipment. The view is looking towards Long Island.
The vintage of the cars to the left of the photograph suggest that this could have been taken in the late 40's - early 50's. The "Eva Grace" is on the right side of the photo in dry dock with a man working on her port side. To the left of "Eva Grace" is a vessel with the id# 1 G 883. This boat resembles the traditional lobster boat style. It looks as if this picture was taken in a boat yard.
According to James L. Warren's "Maine Sardine Industry History 1875-2000", "Eva Grace" was built in East Machias, Maine, in 1930 and was 60 feet long. She drew 5.6 ft. Her gross ton was 34 and her net ton was 22. Her location was Prospect Harbor and she was affiliated with the Stinson Canning Co.
