Rectangular birchbark picture frame, with glass window 3 1/2” by 4”, framing photo of Lucie Pray, age 12 to 16 (photo #001.59.297. )Rough texture, edges of frame bound with some sort of slim wood binding. Thin metal rods attached to back as prop. Glass is coated with dirt and grime.

Description:
Framed, typewritten history of the Sound School, which was buillt in 1892. Notes teacher Mrs. Wiggin and student Bud Bordeaux, who graduated in 1926, the year the school closed. Then the building was used as a community center and then owned by the Sound Village Improvement Association; it was later owned by the Town of Mount Desert. The building was given to the MDI Historical Society in 1998; restoration was begun in 1999 and completed in 2000. This framed history hung in the school room or entry way until the exhibit about the village of Sound and schools on MDI was hung in 2015. [show more]

Beaded picture frame. Beaded fringe on bottom. Clear beads in rows around photo with sections of yellow, green, red and blue. Sewn on yellowed muslin. Stiff paper under fabric frame. Purple velvet under beads at top of frame. Photo of baby in white dress.

Side of frame resemble logs with leaves in each corner. Frame nailed together. Gilt edge. Glass in frame. Wood backing. The original nails hold wood in place. Picture hanger made of red cord. Cord tied in loop at top, very worn at loop. Photo # 997-933-1103 removed from frame.
