Description:
This is the sixth of six 8 by 10 inch black and white photograph COPIES which were used in an Historical Society exhibit in about 2001. The source for these photos is marked Jaylene. This print is of Baker Island Lighthouse. An American flag is flying on the flagpole in front of the keeper's house. The light is attached to the right of keeper's house. There is a shed on the right side of the photo which has two large drums mounted beside it. The original of this photo --and possibly the negative -- are in the collection of the Southwest Harbor Public Library. MDIHS does not have permission to reproduce this image. There are a few tiny white spots on the print. [show more]

This 11 by 14 inch black and white photograph is a copy of a Ballard photograph used in an exhibit around 2002. The print is of the Bass Harbor Light taken from the rocks beyond the light going towards Ship Harbor. The bell is in view, as is the light. The lower sky is filled with clouds.

Description:
This is a 6 by 8 inch photo in grayscale mounted on the back of a poster in a wooden frame. The frame measures 9 and 1/2 by 11 and 1/2 inches. The photo is frayed on the edges and has a black marking jutting up from the bottom right hand corner to the stern of the schooner. It is a two masted schooner in drydock. A U.S. Flag flies from the back mast. There is a bow spread. Anchored boats can be seen in the background. People are around the exposed hull and on the wharf. It looks old. The frame is damaged too. Pieces of the top layer of wood are chipped off. The paper backing on the reverse side has green and black lettering and the name "Addie Smith" is written in pencil in cursive. There is a single piece of wood in the center of the back running from the top and bottom sections of the frame. It is held in by two nails. This piece of bracing measures 3 and 1/2 by 9 and 1/4 inches. [show more]

This 11 by 14 black and white photograph is a copy of a Ballard photograph used in an exhibit in about 2002. The print is of three men working on the hull of a motorboat in drydock. They are replacing the wooden planking and ribs on the port side towards the stern. The motor launch is white with a dark stern. Looking under the stern two boats are partially visible with large numbers on their sides. On the left side of the photo is a hull of a large gray boat with a number on the hull in the style that the numbers were displayed during World War II. Tools and scraps of wood are visible in the work area around and under the boat being repaired. [show more]

This print is taken from in front of the original Jordan Pond House facing the Bubbles. There are 4 chairs in the foreground, only one is occupied. There is another chair on the left edge of the photograph. The original of this photo --and possibly the negative -- are in the collection of the Southwest Harbor Public Library. This black and white photograph is approximately 12 by 9 and 3/4 inches. It is mounted on gray cardboard-like paper which has a corner missing on the upper righthand side. The gift inventory list identifies it as " Flock of seagulls in flight - hand tinted". There is a crayon mark on the lower right hand side of the print.

This is the third of six 8 by 10 black and white photographs which were Ballard copies from an Historical Society exhibit in about 2001. The source of these prints is marked Jaylene. It is labeled "Great Head" on the back like 010.FIC.123.2, however, more of the rock formations are visible in the foreground with the rocky cliff in the background on the left side of the print . The view of the ocean to the right is taken from farther away than 010.FIC.123.2. There are a few tiny white spots on the right side of the photo. Description:
This is an 8 by 10 inch black and white photograph mounted on gray cardboard. It is difficult to determine where this photograph was taken. It seems as if it was taken on a wooded knoll looking out to the ocean. There are points of land jutting out in the background and it looks as if there is a sandy inlet at the base of the knoll. The original inventory list indicates that "Merry Christmas in Gold Lettering" is written on the gray matte. However, those words do not appear now. [show more]

This 11 by 14 inch black and white copy of a Ballard photograph is possibly from an Historical exhibit at Charles Butt's home in 2002. There is a male mountain climber possibly between 50 and 65 years of age with his back to the photographer. He is holding on to a metal rung on a trail encircling large bolders. This could be the Precipice Trail.

This 11 by 14 inch black and white photograph is a copy of a Ballard photograph. The print is of the Northeast Harbor Fleet dock and clubhouse. There is a beached A boat named the Nevis by the side of the dock. An adult is working on the hull, it looks like he is painting the bottom. Three other males, of various ages, are by the boat. In front of the clubhouse are two men talking. One is sitting astride a bicycle. There are other bicycles near these two men. Nautical flags are flying and there is an old car parked on the road. The car is from the late 40's early 50's vintage. Judging from the subjects, the car and the size of the clubhouse, this photo was taken before the late 1960's. [show more]
